Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Cllr Naomi Bailie and Council staff supported Action Cancer's 'Paint the Town Pink' campaign yesterday by wearing pink to work and donating money.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Naomi Bailie commented, “Only too many families throughout our district have been affected by breast cancer, so I’m delighted to support Paint the Town Pink.  This high profile campaign will help raise awareness and ultimately save lives. I’m delighted that Council staff have embraced the campaign, their effort has been tremendous. I’m also pleased to be able to present a cheque to the charity from my Chairperson’s fund which will go towards the overall total raised by Council.”

Action Cancer’s Stacey Graham commented, “We are so delighted to have the support of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council with Paint The Town Pink. We are very excited and thank all the local businesses in the area who have agreed to take part. Over 1,000 businesses and individuals are taking part throughout October by holding pink themed fundraisers to raise money for our breast screening service. Not only is it great to have so many people raising funds, it really helps to raise awareness of the service.”

As part of the Paint The Town Pink Campaign the Action Cancer Big Bus will visit Dock Wall, Warrenpoint on 21 October providing for breast screenings and health checks to the local community.

The charity would appeal to as many local businesses in the Council area to get involved in their Paint the Town Pink Campaign by decorating shop windows and holding small fundraisers during October.
