Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is seeking public views on its new draft Off-Street Parking (Public Car Parks) Order, with responses accepted until Monday 21 September 2026 at 5pm. The new order will provide legislative cover for the operation and management of council controlled off-street car parks, supporting local business and enhancing traffic management within local settlements.
There are 16 public car parks in Newry City of which 6 are chargeable.
Council say that public consultation is a key component in the development of the final Order. The Council is keen to gather feedback from residents, visitors, and other stakeholders on the proposed changes. This feedback will be carefully considered and used to refine and finalise the proposals.
The order will encompass a total of sixty-one off-street car parks throughout the district. Members of the public can view the draft Off-Street Parking Order, along with Schedule 1 Parking Places and Schedule 2 Tariffs at draft-off-street-parking-order
It is anticipated that the main body of the current Off-Street Parking Order will remain largely unchanged; however, a number of amendments are currently under consideration.
Should these proposed amendments be approved, they will be incorporated into a new Order following the completion of the necessary approvals and statutory processes.
