Write a commentNewry Mourne and Down District Council through the Ring of Gullion Partnership has commissioned Outdoor Recreation NI to develop an Outdoor Recreation Action Plan for South Armagh.
In order to develop the Action Plan, Outdoor Recreation NI is holding a public consultation in Mullaghbane Community Centre on Tuesday 11 April at 7pm.
Attractive, safe and accessible outdoor spaces such as forests, rivers and the uplands deliver a wide range of social, economic and environmental benefits in addition to improving the health of those participating in outdoor recreation activities.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick said, “The Council have just launched their Tourism Strategy for the next five years with a vision to make Newry Mourne and Down a premier, year-round mountain and maritime destination in Ireland recognised for its EPIC experiences in outdoor adventure”
Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick continued, “The work that the Ring of Gullion and Outdoor Recreation NI are doing in South Armagh now will help the Outdoor Recreation sector to grow and develop to make the most of this vision. I would encourage anyone in this sector to attend the meeting on the 11th April.”
Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick went on to say, “The Action Plan will make recommendations for the sustainable development, management and promotion of future outdoor recreation facilities and opportunities within the Ring of Gullion AONB and South Armagh region, accommodating both the needs of the local community and those visiting the area whilst reflecting the corporate priorities of the council.”
Members of the local community and interested individuals are invited to attend the public consultation which will assist in gathering the views and opinions on the current outdoor recreation facilities and service provision in the area as well as opportunities for development.
