Newry City Councillor Valerie Harte has said that whilst she and residents welcome the work that Roads Service has commenced on Talbot Street, Stream Street and High Street, she will continue to lobby the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) to get a commitment from them to resurface these roads.
Councillor Harte said “After much lobbying with the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) Roads Service I’m delighted to see that some work has started ( all be it remedial) on Talbot St, Stream St and High St in Newry.

Cllr Harte added that she will be keeping in contact with DFI in the hope that within the new financial year these areas along with the Windmill Rd would be considered for resurfacing.
It's expected there will be a new Traffic Management Programme for the Trevor Hill and Sandy Street routes which will benefit motorists and pedestrians.
Cllr Harte said "This I am informed is in the early stages but in the interim new lane markings and lane direction signage will be installed which it is hoped will alleviate some of the ongoing issues.
“Hopefully this initial response to concerns realised by elected representatives and the community will alleviate some of the issues. However I will continue to monitor the situation and press for full funding and resources to ensure that the traffic flow and management improves as well as the health and safety and well being of Residents and pedestrians”
