Newry City Councillor Aidan Mathers has extended his deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the man who died in Newry yesterday afternoon, 17 December. The man in his 30's died following an incident involving an Ulsterbus on Needham Bridge Close to Newry Bus Station at the top of Monaghan Street in the city. Translink is helping the police with their investigation.
The local Councillor said: “This is tragic news and I extend my sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased.
"A life lost brings unimaginable grief at any time of year, and must be particularly difficult at a time of year when we come together with loved ones.
"This is a tragedy which will be deeply felt within the local community who I know will now rally round the family at this difficult time”.
Speaking on the incident a Translink spokesperson said “Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragedy."
They added “Translink is assisting PSNI with their investigation into the incident.”
