Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has launched its Be Active Summer Programme 2026, with bookings opening at 10am on Monday 16 June. The programme which runs throughout July and August is designed to keep children and young people active and engaged during the school holidays.
Activities are available at council leisure facilities and include outdoor and indoor swimming, multi-sports camps, basketball, squash and table tennis. Inclusive programmes are also on offer to support participation for children and young people of all abilities, including autism-friendly swim sessions and camps for children with neurodiversity such as autism and ADHD. A Teen Activity Week and teen gym sessions are also part of the line-up, along with outdoor swimming at the Tropicana at the Newcastle Centre.

All activities are delivered by qualified staff in safe and supportive environments.
Council Chairperson Councillor Glyn Hanna welcomed the launch. "The Be Active Summer Programme continues to play an important role in encouraging children and young people to stay active, social and engaged throughout the summer months. We are proud to offer a wide range of affordable and inclusive activities that support healthy lifestyles and provide enjoyable experiences for families across the district."
Cllr Hanna encouraged families to get involved early. "With something for everyone to enjoy, I would encourage parents and guardians to explore the programme and take advantage of the fantastic opportunities available this summer."
