Crossmaglen Man Stephen Hughes will have an early start this Monday 14 August as he embarks on his fundraising 548km walk from Malin Head to Mizen Head. Stephen is completing the walk in memory of his father Pat who died in July 2022. His walk will raise funds for the Southern Area Hospice who provided wonderful care to his Mother and Father before he passed away last year.
Stephen picked the route for many reasons but the fact that it was the last holiday his mother and father did in 2021 when they did the Wild Atlantic Way starting at Malin Head and finishing in Mizen Head, that made him determined. Ireland was his dads favourite holiday location.
It's a walk he has always wanted to do. Stephen said "My Dad had a great love for our local GAA team Crossmaglen Rangers and they kindly presented me with a jersey which I intend to wear on my travels and hope to get as many photographs at all the local GAA clubs on route. The counties I will travel through are Donegal, Derry, Tyrone, Fermanagh, Cavan, Leitrim, Longford, Kilkenny, Westmeath, Offaly, Tipperary, Limerick and Cork.
He concluded "I hope you will accompany me on my journey through my updates and most importantly sponsor me through my Go Fund Me page for this service we have and none of us will ever know when we would be so grateful to avail of it."
