Daisy Hill renal team in top three teams across UK

Daisy Hill Hospital's renal dietetics team has been acknowledged as one of the top three teams in the United Kingdom.

Providing crucial care to patients with kidney disease hailing from Armagh, Dungannon, Craigavon, Banbridge, Newry, Mourne, and certain border areas of the Republic, the Trustwide renal service is a lifeline for around 90 individuals undergoing dialysis at the renal unit.

Comprising a dedicated team of specialists, including nurses, doctors, pharmacists, podiatrists, social workers, dietitians, technicians, health care assistants, and administrative staff, the team extends its support to patients opting for home therapy treatment and those attending outpatient clinics.

Trudy Reid, the Director of Medicine and Unscheduled Care for the Southern Trust, expressed her congratulations to the team, stating, "Our renal team has consistently earned recognition for delivering high-quality, holistic care and demonstrating unwavering dedication to patients and their families."

Annually, the Renal Registry evaluates the performance of 67 adult renal centers across the UK. Daisy Hill's renal team has consistently excelled, ranking among the top units in the country for patient experience and quality of care. This year, the team has once again demonstrated outstanding performance across all registry standards for dialysis and transplant patients. Notably, they have achieved a commendable position in the top three units in the UK for bone health in their patients.

The management of renal bone disease, a prevalent complication for those with kidney failure, is a pivotal aspect of the care provided by the specialist dietitians on the team. Their commitment and expertise in establishing guidelines, monitoring, and delivering care related to bone disease have led to remarkable outcomes for patients.

Trudy Reid commended the compassionate team, emphasising their continuous efforts to enhance the quality of life for individuals with kidney disease in the Southern area. She added "I would like to pay tribute to such a compassionate team, who are continually striving to improve the quality of life they offer people with kidney disease living in the Southern area."
