Proceedings in respect of a call for a Judicial Review of the decision to grant planning permission for the proposed Newry Civic Centre will be heard next year it has emerged.
Newry resident Paul Lennon had applied in November to the High Court in Belfast for leave to apply for a Judicial Review of the decision by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council to grant planning permission for the project.
The site of the proposed civic centre has proved controversial with both the business community and Newry Cathedral Parish objecting to the location. Just under 2600 objections to the project have been documented on the planning portal with loss of car parking a major bone of contention.
Newry.ie understands that grounds cited for the JR application are based around matters including climate change legislation, the consultation process, decision making and planning fees paid.
It is believed that the hearing will take place in March 2026.
