Write a commentCommenting after returning from trip to Moore Hall Carnacon in County Mayo to see the regeneration of the premises launched Councillor Roisin Mulgrew has said that she was sure that the partnership between the Friends of Derrymore and Moore Hall regeneration project would develop positively.
Explaining how the relationship had formed Councillor Mulgrew said "While I was delighted to propose Derrymore House as a recipient of cooperation funding it was essential to find a group with a similar project and similarities. A call was put out to other Local Action Groups (LAG) throughout Ireland. We were all delighted when Mayo County Council came forward with the Moore Hall Regeneration Project.
"Over the last year or more we have realised many similarities between the two projects, for example both houses were built with a decade of each other in the 1700’s, both Isaac Corry of Derrymore and Thomas Moore of Moore Hall were MPs involved in the Act of Union, albeit with Corry in favour and Moore against.Both houses have beautiful woods and walled gardens and are steeped in history."
Cllr Mulgrew continued "Behind both of these projects were a small group of dedicated and passionate volunteers and I am delighted to have been able to work with and support the Friends of Derrymore since joining council five years ago. This Groups are now part of a partnership between council the national trust and themselves and all are proving to be enthusiastic partners"
Concluding Cllr Mulgrew said spoke of how the project at Derrymore would be of benefit to all "The co-operation project between Moore Hall and Derrymore has taken another step forward with the visit of myself, Vice Chairperson of Council Cllr Oksana McMahon, Council Officers and representatives from Friends of Derrymore to Mayo to be part of the launch of the Moore Hall regeneration project.
"There is great support within the local communities for the appropriate development and enhancement of Derramore Wood Estate for visitors. Plans are in place for extended and upgraded paths, a playpark, toilets and additional parking"
