The MLA speaking after this weeks Post Brexit International & Cross Border Conference in the Carrickdale Hotel said "In December the British government reached a political agreement with the EU when the joint communique on Brexit was produced.
“Since then the Tories have been attempting to roll back on what was contained in that communique and the latest announcement that try intend to leave both the single market and customs union is further evidence of that"
Commenting on the news of a leaked British government analysis which estimates a massive 12% of GDP in the north of Ireland will be wiped out post-Brexit Mr Boylan added “This British government leak confirms what many across society have been saying since, and before the Brexit vote – dragging the north from the EU has the potential to devastate our local economy.The potential of a 12% downturn in the northern economy comes following a decade of Tory policy designed to starve our economy of resources.The impact on infrastructure, on public services, on workers and business owners will be profound.
He concluded "The Irish island economy is increasingly integrated. There is a responsibility on all public representatives, the Irish government, trade unions and the business community to demand Designated Special Status to protect island economy from a brutal Brexit hit."
