Motorists across the Newry, Mourne and Down district are being advised to plan ahead this St Patrick's Day, 17 March, as a number of parades and events are set to cause traffic disruption.
In Newry, participants in the annual St Patrick's Day Parade will gather at the Albert Basin at around midday, with the parade starting at 1pm. The route will take in Buttercrane Quay, Merchants Quay, Sugar Island, Kildare Street and The Mall. Hill Street will be closed to traffic and diversions will be signposted.
In Warrenpoint, the parade will assemble at the Community Centre at around 2.15pm and make its way along Charlotte Street, Church Street, Queen Street, Seaview, Osbourne Promenade, Havelock Place, Harbour Quays, Marnie Parade, Dock Street and The Square.
In Downpatrick, participants will gather at 12.30pm and parade from Downshire Estate along Ardglass Road, Edward Street, John Street, Irish Street, Market Street and on to Rathkeltair car park. Traffic management will be in place and diversions will be signposted. A car cavalcade is also planned before and after the event.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys on the day and to follow signposted diversions where in place.
