Police have arrested a man following a burglary at a property in the Cloghoge area yesterday, 13 March, during which a relative of the property owner sustained a number of injuries.
Officers received a report of the burglary in progress in the Chancellor's Road area just after 10am. The resident and a relative had detained a man they suspected of entering the property while it was unoccupied, however a struggle took place when the man was confronted.
Inspector Reynolds confirmed that the injuries sustained by the relative are not thought to be life-threatening at this time.
A number of items reported missing were later located nearby, and substantial damage had been caused to an outhouse building on the property.
Inspector Reynolds said: "The man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and grievous bodily harm, and remains in custody at this time."
Police are now appealing for information from anyone who may have seen a man behaving suspiciously in the Cloghoge area on Thursday night or Friday morning. Inspector Reynolds added that officers would be "particularly keen to hear from anyone with relevant CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage."
