Write a commentAs part of its ongoing strategy to tackle drug dealing in the area Newry, Mourne and Down Policing and Community Safety Partnership are raising awareness of Crimestoppers to encourage members of the public to report suspected drug dealing in their areas.

PCSP Chair Cllr Mickey Larkin stated: “People often comment that the dogs in the street know who is dealing in their streets and neighbourhoods but very often the information goes unreported. This campaign is to encourage all of us to take responsibility to report suspect behaviour via the anonymous charity Crimestoppers. Crimestoppers guarantee anonymity when you report a crime, no-one will ever know you called.”
PSNI Inspector Jacqueline Gillespie stated “This financial year to date there have been 154 drug seizures in Newry, Mourne and Down resulting in 72 arrests. This campaign will support the work of the PSNI in promoting a safe and anonymous mechanism for the public to take action against the damage drug dealing causes in our community.”
The information is available in a variety of formats from social media to posters, beer-mats, business cards etc and will be distributed widely using existing community and business networks and contacts throughout Newry city centre initially as well as to all areas of the Council.
