Write a commentNewry & Armagh MLA Megan Fearon has extended an invitation to all to attend the launch of Sinn Féins LGBT rights document "Equality, Diversity, Solidarity – Fighting with PRIDE for LGBT rights in Ireland."
The Pride in Politics event which has been organised as part of Pride in Newry takes place at on Thursday the 28th of August at 7.30pm in Newry Arts Centre. Refreshments will be served directly after the event.
The panel includes MLAs Mickey Brady and Megan Fearon and Cllr Dáire Hughes the present Mayor of Newry & Mourne. The main speaker is Fintan Warfield, Mayor of South Dublin
Megan explained "We will have a short panel discussion followed by Q&A as we outline Sinn Féins 10 key proposals for LGBT equality, which we believe will lead to a more tolerant, rights based and equal society" and she continued "As an Irish republican party, equality is at the core of all that we in Sinn Féin represent. Nothing less than full equality of rights and opportunities under law for the LGBT community should be tolerated in a modern, progressive and inclusive society.
We continue to work in solidarity with the LGBT community to create positive change in our society that will activate public and political support for full equal rights.
Sinn Féin LGBT is in the process of developing a radical new policy document, as part of its consultation process, Sinn Féin will be seeking submissions from members, interested parties & LGBT groups across Ireland.
The document we will launch is intended to provide the reader with a general insight into the issues effecting LGBT people, demonstrate our position and will be used as a basis of discussion and policy formation consultation".
