Write a commentResidents in the Newry Street area of Kilkeel are set to enjoy an egg-cellent Easter, thanks to recent Community Grant funding from the Housing Executive.
Newry Street Unite has been allocated funding of £1,120 to host a range of virtual Easter events for local people.
Providing services for residents in the area, Newry Street Unite have a packed schedule this Easter, which includes flower arranging, a visit from the Easter Bunny, a treasure hunt, craft activities and a family quiz.
Ann Fitzpatrick, Community Development Worker for Newry Street Unite thanked the Housing Executive for the recent funding.
She said: “We are very pleased to receive funding from the Housing Executive in support of our Easter Spring activity programme.
“This funding will facilitate a virtual Easter Egg Hunt, a visit from the Easter Bunny and a remote workshop to create beautiful Easter floral arrangements.
“All these small activities go a long way in helping to keep the community connected in this very difficult time of Covid-19.”
Newry Street Unite has continued to link and connect with the community virtually during Covid-19 and identify the importance of this for residents’ health and well-being.
Liam Gunn, South Down Area Manager for the Housing Executive, welcomed the recent funding allocation.
He said: “Funding from our Community Grant Scheme is a great opportunity to help support a range of initiatives that promote health and well-being and bring people together, even in a virtual capacity, at grassroots level.
“I am delighted this recent funding will allow residents to have an exciting Easter, with a number of different activities organised by Newry Street Unite.”
