Write a commentFollowing a successful workshop on Nutrient Management in January with Grainne McCarney from the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE), the next workshop in the series will take place on Tuesday 9 February at 7.30pm in Crossmaglen Community Centre.
The second workshop will provide information on what to do with your soil testing results to help save money on fertilizer cost and improve the quality of your soil. It will also involve Nitrogen Management and the legal issues surrounding it. If you have had you soil tested in the last few months, please bring along your results on the night.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairman, Councillor Mickey Ruane explains, “Nutrient Management can help farmers save money and reduce pollution. This can be seen from the soil testing results, where at least 60% of the fields have the wrong PH and require lime. Without this lime, the farmer is not getting the most of the fertilizer they are buying. These workshops will help farmers to work out the amount of nutrients to give their crops for their local field conditions.”
The Computerised Nutrient Management Planning will help farmers to improve soil fertility, make best use of livestock manures, reduce fertiliser costs and become familiar with the computer program.
