Newry City’s Festival of Water takes place this Sunday 30th August 2015 at Newry Canal - Albert Basin.  

This event provides a platform for local athletes to showcase their potential and bring together a range of sporting events not to be missed.  There is something for all the family to enjoy so come along support and cheer on the participating triathletes over the finish line.  The spectacular line up of sporting activities includes:

O’Briens Newry Border Man Half Iron Distance Triathlon - Start Time: 7:30am 

Kick starting the sporting activities will be the O’Brien’s Newry Border Man Half Iron Distance Triathlon which includes a 1.9K Swim, 92K Cycle Route and 22K Run.  For further information and registration details please visit: www.myraceentries.co.uk/borderman or follow us on Facebook: O’Brien’s Newry “Borderman” Half Iron Distance Triathlon. Closing date for entries will be Monday 24th August 2015.  Registration will commence at 6:00am.

firmus energy 2015 Newry “Sprint” Triathlon (The fastest sprint triathlon in Ireland) - Start Time: 9:30am

C losing date for entries will be Monday 24th August 2015.  Registration will commence at 8:00am. 

Iron Kids Mini Biathlon - Start Time: 12:00noon

The Iron Kids Mini Biathlon is offered for U18s to gain experience at competing in triathlons.  Entry is FREE and registration can be emailed to: donna@newry.com or on the day at 11:00am.   Participants will require signed consent form, bike and helmet to compete. 

Festival of Water / Free Family Fun Event - 11:30am – 4:00pm  

The Albert Basin will be a hive of activity for the Festival of Water.  This is a free family fun event which is open to the entire community.  Come along and enjoy a truly entertaining day, trying water based activities ranging from;  Kayak Racing, Curragh Racing, Chip & Dip, Jet Ski Rides, Canoe Races, Banana Rides, Rib Rides and Climbing Wall. Open Air Concert - 12:00noon – 4:00pm               

During the day the Albert Basin will come alive to the sound of The Nooks and The Professionals providing non-stop entertainment. 

Traffic Diversions

There will be no access to the Fathom Line from the Dublin Bridge or the Omeath Road from 7.00pm on Saturday 29th August due to logistical set up.    Traffic travelling to Omeath will be diverted by Bridge Street / Drumalane. Traffic coming from O’Meath will be diverted via Drumalane.  Access to the Quays Shopping Centre & Leisure Centre will be via Bridge Street entrance only.
