Fire Service has quieter Halloween overall but still busy locally!

Newry & Armagh MLA Megan Fearon has welcomed the news that the Fire Service has reported an 18% decrease in Halloween incidents compared to last year but was disappointed to hear that the majority of incidents were in the Southern Command Area.

Megan explained "The service said it received 141 calls and attended 102 incidents across The North, the lowest figure on record for 31 October, but it was disappointing to learn that the majority of the incidents (45%) were located in the Southern Command Area. However most incidents involved rubbish, bonfires and calls where tyres had been set alight". 

However Megan said that feedback from various  Halloween events organised by Councils and Community Groups had been very positive.

"From Newry to Camloch, to Crossmaglen, to Newtownhamilton to Keady, to Armagh, many residents and visitors have been praising the great nights of Halloween Fireworks and festivities that had been organised by community safety, voluntary and sporting groups and local Councils"

Mickey Brady MLA added that the Newry Fireworks display had been spectacular.
