A wet miserable night didn't dampen the enthusiasm of over 250 runners who took part in the first ever Newry Oktoberfest 5K which started (and luckily finished!)at the Bier Tent in McClelland Park.
Creamery Quarter or not there wasn't too many runners looking milk at the finish line with bottles of Erdinger on offer for each finisher and a special Newry Oktoberfest Bottle Opener/ Medal.
Winner was Newry Man Dermot Mathers who finished in a time of 16:47; Second place was Andy McKee 16:58 and Third was Eamon McConvey at 17:12. First Woman home was Julie Turley 18:15 and 2nd Marrie Harte 18:57.
Meanwhile back in the tent, where exercise was a Non Runner St Catherines Band provided the entertainment along with Cold Porter and a disco set from Stevie P.
The Bier flowed and the Steins strained, none more so than race winner Dermot's prize of what looked like a ten gallon glass!
Now it has to be done all over again tonight!
