Representatives from Newry and Mourne District Council could be calling at your door soon to show you how to make the most out of the recycling schemes available.
is currently talking to residents to encourage them to get the recycling bug and use their wheeled bins to recycle as much of their household waste as possible.
Working with the specialist research and engagement agency, Enventure Research, the project is set to knock on approximately 7,000 doors to talk to as many residents as possible about what they can recycle at the kerbside and how to make the most out of the recycling schemes.
Assistant Waste Management and Recycling Officer at the Council, Tara Cunningham, said “Everyone in the District will soon receive a new blue bin leaflet, calendar and bin sticker. Householders with a brown bin will receive their updated collection calendar in the coming weeks. We will follow up this action with a 4 week doorstepping communication project funded by the Rethink Waste fund.”
With a recycling target of 40% by 2015, the Council is confident that with the right support, recycling service and enthusiasm from local residents, this target will be achieved.
Mayor Cllr Michael Ruane said “This is an excellent opportunity for residents to find out exactly how their recycling scheme works and ask lots of questions so they can recycle everything they can. It’s also a chance for them to suggest what would encourage them recycle more in the future, which will really help the Council reach its recycling targets.”
