Speaking on the matter Cllr Byrne said ‘This is something which is completely avoidable as it’s caused by people flushing items like baby wipes and cotton buds.

"In fact, 93% of material causing sewer blockages is made up of wipes – including a high proportion of baby wipes -which are not designed to be flushed."

‘NI Water are focusing on the problem as part of their Bag it and Bin it Campaign and will highlight the everyday items that are causing these blockages.
