Former Newry and Mourne Councillor Brian Quinn has died aged 64. The Ballymartin resident passed away suddenly yesterday 15 March.
Quinn served as an SDLP Councillor for The Mournes on council from 2014 to 2019 and was regularly seen throughout the district on his iconic motor tricycle. In 2014 he served as Deputy Mayor of the council alongside Mayor Daire Hughes. He was a community person through and through and spent time as Chairperson of the Newry, Mourne and Down Policing and Community Safety Partnership as well as being a Director of Newry and Mourne Community Transport. He was passionate about the regeneration of the Mournes area.
Cllr Michael Savage, Chairperson, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council said "So deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my friend and colleague and former councillor Brian Quinn. A gentleman who loved his family, community and of course his bike. A solid human being who was a well respected representative and Mourne man to the core. My deepest sympathy to Brian's family and friends at this very sad time. Rest in Peace Brian."
Cllr Henry Reilly said the area will be a lesser place without him "I am shocked and saddened to hear about the sudden passing away of my friend and colleague Brian Quinn - Brian was a decent man of integrity who loved Mourne and all its people - Brian was from a different tradition to me but he did not care if you were Protestant, Catholic or other - If you had a problem and he could help he would do it with a heart and a half- Mourne will be a lesser place without him."
His Funeral Mass will take place in St. Joseph's Church Ballymartin on Saturday 18 March at 11.00am with burial afterwards in adjoining cemetery.
