A daring endeavour by a group of eleven local fundraisers will see them reach new heights this weekend, when they abseil off the top of Belfast's Europa Hotel to raise funds for St Joseph and St Jame's PS, Poyntzpass and St Joseph's Parish Hall Committee.
Members of the Friends of St Joseph and St James’s PTA committee and two teachers from the school will be participating. This Sunday 14 September they head to Belfast for the challenge and explaining how they feel about the challenge a spokesperson said "We are all incredibly nervous and excited to take on this fundraising challenge for our children." The group also plan to take part in a sponsored walk along the Cuilcagh Boardwalk (Stairway to Heaven) in Fermanagh later this month.
Artwork from some of the St Joseph and St James's schoolchildren feature in a video wishing the fundraisers well, with some great drawings showing participants gliding down the Europa without a care in the world!
Explaining why they are taking part, one of the fundraisers said "Sometimes the biggest leaps start with a little fear — but with courage, community, and a cause worth abseiling for, anything is possible". Another added "The girls from 'Friends of St Joseph's and St James' are a fab bunch who go over and above to raise money for the school and I know we will cheer each other on. The money raised will give all the kids, better opportunities, resources, and memories to cherish. What an honour to be part of that".
Tracy O'Hare who came up with the idea has no choice but to do it of course. She added "I want to do something exciting and challenging outside of just being Mummy! I want to show my kids that they can do anything they want!"
They aim to raise some vital funds for the school in order to support the educational activities the school provides. Each year they support a local charity in addition to the school and in 2025 they have chosen to support the fundraising efforts of St. Josephs Parish Hall committee, a place they hold many of their activities throughout the year.
The fundraiser has already raised over £3,600. If you would like to support the brave team go to www.gofundme.com
