Calling all Leprechauns … Buttercrane's very own leprechaun, aka 11-year-old James Rafferty, from St Josephs and St James Primary School, Poyntzpass, is looking for little people to take part in a fancy dress competition at Buttercrane Centre, Newry,  on Saturday 16th March.  A fabulous 'pot of gold' chocolate coins is on offer for the winner.Only in Ireland can you get away with celebrating St. Patrick’s Day the day before - but what a celebration it will be!

On Saturday 16th March, Buttercrane Centre will be adding to the City Centre’s many festivities by also hosting its St Patrick’s Day activities on the same day.

Buttercrane’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations are planned to have the public dancing in the aisles (or at least toe-tapping!) along to folk music, Irish dancing and general merriment that will be on offer throughout the Centre during the weekend.

Outlining the shopping centre’s quirky fancy dress competition, Peter Murray, Buttercrane Centre Manager, says; “We’ve even gone to the trouble of plucking a 'pot of gold' chocolate coins from the end of a rainbow the last time it rained!  It will be the prize on offer for the winner of the children’s themed fancy dress competition that Saturday. 

“To be in with the chance of winning the ‘pot of gold’, we would encourage you to get into the spirit of the weekend by bring your little ones dressed as leprechauns and ensure you have their photo taken in Buttercrane at the Customer Services Desk between 10am and 6pm on Saturday 16th March.  The competition is open to those under 14 years of age.

“We hope the Centre will be teaming with entrants to create our Jane McQuaid (left) and Mollí Garvey, Irish dancers from the Olivia Daly Dance School, based in Poyntzpass, are pictured preparing for a special performance to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at Buttercrane Centre, Newry.  They will be joined by fellow dancers from the dance school in Buttercrane on Saturday 16th March to perform various dances from 11.30am – 1.30pm. very own rainbow of photos for uploading to the Centre’s facebook page, where shoppers will be encouraged to vote for the best dressed leprechaun. The photo with the most votes by 12noon on Saturday 23rd March wins.”

While in the Buttercrane on Saturday 16 March shoppers will also be kept entertained throughout the day with folk music from 12noon - 3pm; Irish dancing from 11.30am-1.30pm; and face painting from 11am to 4pm.
