Heat is on in Newry

A £210,000 Housing Executive oil heating conversion scheme has been completed in Newry.

A total of 29 tenants in the Fearons Terrace and Lurganare areas of Newry had their heating converted to oil. This project is part of a programme to replace older heating systems with cleaner, more efficient sources of heating.

The contract valued at more than £210,000 was carried out by HEAT Ltd, our contractor for this type of work in the South Area.

Housing Executive District Manager Jim Bagnall described the schemes as a major boost for local residents and a step towards the Housing Executive’s goal to improve energy efficiency in homes across Northern Ireland. He commented:

“As the Home Energy Conservation Authority for Northern Ireland, the Housing Executive is committed to improving energy efficiency in both social and private sector housing and is working with partner organisations in a wide range of projects. I am delighted that our tenants will benefit from an efficient, cleaner heating system.

“We worked closely with our heating contractor HEAT to ensure that our tenants were fully consulted and I’m pleased that the work was carried out to a very high standard with as little disruption as possible.

“This significant investment demonstrates our commitment to providing modern, comfortable homes for our tenants in Newry and to help address fuel poverty.”

Trish Whiteway, from HEAT welcomed the work and said: “We have worked with the Housing Executive to complete these improvement works to the highest possible standard and with the minimum of disruption. The feedback we have received is that tenants are delighted to have these new energy efficient heating systems in their homes especially after the recent winter that we experienced”.
