Top Gear’s ‘Stig’ was on hand to help launch the 2011 Kilbroney Vintage Show along with new Mayor of Newry and Mourne Charlie Casey. The event will be held in Kilbroney Park, Rostrevor, on Saturday 18th June.
This event, which is organised by Newry and Mourne District Council and Newry Lions Club, is now recognised as the premier old vehicle rally to be held in Ireland and is eagerly looked forward to by thousands of old vehicle enthusiasts who will descent on Kilbroney Park with their vehicles polished to pristine condition.
Already there has been a huge response from both North and South of the Border and the organisers are expecting a bumper number of entries this year.
Visitors to the Show can look forward to a fun packed day. Trade Stands and Autojumblers will provide bargains galore. There will be demonstrations of working farm machinery and as usual there will be the funfair and novelty shows for children, including Clowns, Magic Shows and Face Painters.
Headlining the entertainment will be the Country Harmony Showband and Tom O’Rourke.
Speaking at the Launch the Mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council, Councillor Charlie Casey said “Over the past 15 years this event has brought thousands of tourists to the Newry and Mourne area and has become one of the biggest Vintage Shows in Ireland. I want to pay tribute to Newry Lions Club and the local vintage clubs who are working in partnership with the Council to organise this event. I would also like to thank our sponsors The Quays Shopping and Leisure Complex for their continued support”
President of Newry Lions Club, Phelim Convery stated: “Newry Lions Club is delighted to be associated with the Kilbroney Vintage Show and would encouraged everyone to come along to what promises to be a fantastic event. All monies raised will, as usual, be going to local charities”.
