The Newry Business Christmas Toy Mountain Appeal is now in its 23rd year with around £1.7m raised since it began. This Thursday 8 December the Toy Mountain will hopefully reach new heights at the Canal Court Hotel and you can help by either donating a toy or making a contribution via their go fund me page. If you want to donate a toy a full list of drop off points are below. Toys should be unwrapped.
The appeal committee are working feverishly in the background to ensure that, as in every other year, no child in the greater Newry area will go without a toy this Christmas.
For the past two years they were unable to host their Charity Dinner event, due to COVID restrictions. However the event returns on Thursday at The Canal Court. It will see some 600+ people with each guest asked to bring a toy, or make a donation to the toy mountain appeal.
This year there will be a notable empty seat at the table with the absence of Declan McChesney who helped organise the event in his own unforgettable way. Declan passed away in October and is deeply missed by the local business community.
This has always been a community wide effort in support of Newry Hospice, St Vincent de Paul Society, The Salvation Army and many other local charities in the area, at a time when needs are most poignant.
Organisers are asking people to make a special effort to help again this year.
