Home Start Newry and Mourne receive £356K Lottery Funding

Home Start Newry And Mourne based at Ballybot House in Newry has been awarded a £356,735 grant from The National Lottery Community Fund.

The four-year project is using the funding to build on the work they are doing with families in the Newry and Mourne area who require immediate assistance to prevent their difficulties developing into a crisis. 

The project is working with vulnerable families in their homes to provide short term, intensive support, and find solutions to issues including behavioural management, money management, relationship breakdown, poor mental health and children on the Child Protection Register. Once the situation is stabilised the family moves to longer term support from a Homestart Volunteer or an outside agency. The project helps families to access support and encourages them to connect with their local community.

Bevin O'Hare, scheme manager for Home-Start Newry & Mourne said: "It is wonderful news that we have received this funding from The National Lottery Community Fund which will allow us to continue to diversify our support services to families in the area.  We are truly thankful for the support of the Fund and we look forward to developing our relationship with them and supporting more families."  

National Council of YMCA's of Ireland Limited also received a £198,000 grant. The three-year Accessible for All project is using the funding to install an indoor water facility at the YMCA’s Greenhill campus in Newcastle.
