On Wednesday 20th March 2013 Dr Petrina Flood, Chairperson of Southern Area Hospice Dinner Dance Committee, presented a cheque for £25,000 to Mrs Ann Cooney (Chief Executive) of the Southern Area Hospice Services. This amazing amount was raised at the annual gala ball from raffle ticket sales and a fabulous auction. Bidding was fierce as the auction encouraged diners to part with their cash to help fund the vital services provided by the Hospice throughout the year.
This years Valentines Gala Ball, which proved to be a very glamorous affair, took place on Friday 15th February 2013, in the Canal Court Hotel. The evening concluded with dancing to The Professionals and was hailed as a resounding success by the Committee’s Chairperson Dr Petrina Flood. Petrina stated:
“The Committee would like to thank the event’s many sponsors, and are also grateful to the Canal Court Hotel, Jo Scott of the BBC who acted as Compere for the night, Garry Best and Declan McChesney who conducted the auction and to all those who contributed auction and raffle prizes, those who gave of their time to ensure the event’s success and to the patrons for their continued support”.

Ann Cooney, Chief Executive said, “We are truly delighted to receive such a generous donation again this year. This is a fabulous amount of money to be raised at a time were we know only too well how difficult the economic climate is, and therefore we really do appreciate the level of work and commitment the Dinner Dance Committee put into achieving this total”.
It is hoped for 2014, the wider business community will include the dinner dance as one of their corporate events to show their support for the hospice and the vital role it plays in the community.
