Write a commentThe Southern Area Hospice have unveiled their new hand sculptured Memory Tree which is situated in the corner of the magnificent gardens at Courtney Hill in Newry. The Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Cllr. Mark Murnin was on hand to launch the Memory Tree alongside Hospice staff and volunteers and staff from organisations who volunteered in the gardens and families of patients who have dedicated a leaf on the tree.
Liz Cuddy OBE, CEO of Southern Area Hospice addressed guests at the launch saying: “By dedicating a leaf on our tree we are providing the opportunity to remember a loved one in a very special way and also helping our Hospice to raise vital funds in order to provide care for patients in the future. We would like to thank all those who have helped us to create our beautiful tree and garden and appreciate the hard work and efforts of so many people in getting the garden ready for today’s launch. We are especially delighted to have with us some of the families who have already dedicated a leaf on our Tree; we thank you for doing so and hope like us, you feel it is a special tribute to your loved one.”
Speaking at the launch, Cllr. Murnin said: “I am honored to be here personally to thank the Southern Area Hospice on behalf of our community for the wonderful work they do. The Hospice provides a service which our community could not cope without and for that we are extremely grateful. I am delighted to launch this beautiful Memory Tree which is a unique initiative that provides a special way for each of us to remember our loved ones and provides comfort to families in a tranquil setting. Each leaf will generate vital funds for Hospice and will help them to continue providing care for patients and support to families.”
The Hospice Memory Tree holds 300 leaves which are engraved with the name of a loved one who has died, making it a poignant and lasting way to remember them. The tree is easily accessible anytime you wish to visit to spend time remembering a loved one.
How It Works
A beautiful leaf will be engraved with the name of your loved one and hung on the Memory Tree in the Hospice Gardens.Leaves will hang on the tree for 12 months.After 12 months you will be given the opportunity to either renew your leaf or it will be presented to you in a special keepsake box to treasure forever.
You are welcome to come along to the Hospice gardens any time to spend some quiet reflective time in our memory garden remembering your loved one
How to Dedicate a Leaf
To dedicate a leaf on the Memory Tree, visit the Hospice website at www.southernareahospiceservices.org download and complete the dedication form and return it to the Fundraising office along with your donation. Alternatively Telephone the Hospice Fundraising Office on (028) 302 51333.
The cost of dedicating a leaf is £100 per leaf and each leaf can hold a maximum of 30 characters including spaces.
