MP Dáire Hughes, has congratulated students and staff from St. Paul's High School following their participation in a series of events in London over St. Patrick's weekend.
A group of 77 students, accompanied by staff travelled to London to represent the school over the St. Patrick's weekend, taking part in the St. Patrick's Day parade. The group also gave an impromptu performance for shoppers and tourists at Battersea Power Station and a social media clip of them playing trad music on the London Underground went viral.
On their final day, Dáire Hughes MP welcomed the delegation to Westminster for a tour, performances and a political discussion in the Grand Committee Room.
Speaking after the visit, Dáire said: "It was incredible to welcome a fantastic group of students, staff and parents to Westminster as part of a series of events they undertook to celebrate St. Patrick's Day in London."
Cllr Hughes added: "It was a fantastic and unique experience to have local students perform in Westminster. Their skilled performances of traditional Irish music and dancing brought some much needed culture and flair to the British parliament.
"The level of questioning from the students during our political discussion matched their musical talent. We covered a wide variety of topics including Irish unity, the cost of living crisis, the situations in Palestine and Iran, and Sinn Féin policies.
"The students were powerful ambassadors for St. Paul's and South Armagh. They are a credit to their school, their families and the community. They deserve the highest praise and congratulations for a remarkably successful visit, as do the staff and parents who accompanied them. I hope they all enjoyed the experience and I look forward to hearing what they have planned next."
