The Commons townland is home to one of Newry's rural Orange Lodges. Every 12 July The Commons Cumberland lodge makes its way from The Commons Orange Hall into Newry City to join the other bands at the 12 July Parade from Newry Orange Hall on the Belfast Road in Newry.
The three mile journey along narrow roads in the lush County Down countryside takes around an hour with the members of LOL45 accompanied by The Commons Silver Band. The March takes them through Ballyholland and down the Temple Hill Road into Church Street, Newry and onwards to the Belfast Road.
This year all the Orange Lodges paraded from Newry Orange Hall to the bus station where a fleet of buses took them to the main County Down Parade held this year at Loughbrickland.
