Fionn mac Cumhaill could have been forgiven for staying in bed this morning and giving his exhausting trip to Warrenpoint a miss. After all Storm Betty had put her appearance in through the night with high winds and no shortage or rain. Thankfully though the affable giant got up in time to head down to the Carlingford Lough Ferry and with the wind dying it was time to visit a few friends around the lough. First it was Greenore, then Carlingford, then Rostrevor, then Omeath and eventually after numerous chats he made it to Warrenpoint for just before 2pm. After all you couldn't Wake the Giant if you hadn't a giant to wake!
Thousands of the locals turned out to welcome him and with a full range of events on in Warrenpoint Park and The Square there really was something for everyone. Carlingford Lough Currach Club had the International Currach Championships too.
After his lap of the town it was time to head to the square for a nap. Hopefully he wakes up when the festival continues in the town tomorrow.
