Over 100 ‘dancers’ signed up to take part in ‘Southern Trust does Strictly Come Dancing’ all in aid of Marie Curie.  The top five couples from the four local heats in October then went head-to-head at the grand final on November eleventh.  A range of staff and friends from across the Trust along with Marie Curie colleagues and other willing dancers, resulted in a huge team effort to raise an amazing total for such a worthy cause.

Congratulating all involved in the Strictly fundraiser, Roberta Brownlee, Southern Trust Chairperson said: “As well as being fun events and personal challenges for the staff involved, we are delighted to have raised such a substantial sum for Marie Curie. I would like to congratulate all of those involved for giving of their own personal time and throwing themselves into this task wholeheartedly - the comradery amongst our dancers has been wonderful to see.  My thanks go to each and every one of them for their huge fundraising efforts and also the staff in our Trust and local communities who so generously supported this cause.”

Commenting on the Southern Trust partnership, Anne Hannan, Partnerships Manager at Marie Curie said:

“This has been the charity’s most successful partnership to date.  The Trust’s staff have been very engaged and have gotten behind the partnership in such a huge way.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Southern Health and Social Care Trust and its entire staff for everything that has been achieved to date.  Reaching the fundraising milestone of raising £184,237 (which is the equivalent to 92,118 nursing hours) is an extraordinary moment for the partnership.”
