Ti Chulainn in Mullaghbawn was the setting on Sunday for a massive session as part of the launch of Fergal O’Brien’s, Grade 2 Bodhran Tutor book and CD.

Chairperson of Newry Mourne and Down Council was present to launch the Book along with many guests including John Joe Kelly, Brian Finnegan, Markethill Highland Dancers, McSherry Finnegan Band, Séis, Music Generation Laois, Markethill Primary School.

Mullaghbawn resident Fergal O’Brien who hails from Portglenone has been instrumental in tutoring the bodhran locally for many years and was recently part of a Traditional Arts Partnership trip to Sitges in Barcelona with many young local musicians.

One of the many highlights of the day was the performance of a piece based on Mark Wilson and John Anderson’s Titanic Drums involving many many young enthusiastic Bodhran players.

As well as the guests many local musicians turned up for sessions and to take part in the Workshops available.

The day turned in to night with a fantastic concert from the McSherry Finnegan Band and Séis.
