The Sean Hollywood Arts Centre, Newry and Tí Chulainn in Mullaghbawn will be hosting a bilingual exhibition entitled ‘Athbheochan na Gaeilge agus Éirí Amach na Cásca - The Irish Language Revival and the Easter Rising’.
The exhibition in Mullaghbawn exhibition will be on display from Monday 9 May to Saturday 14 May 2016 with the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre exhibition taking place from Monday 16 May to Saturday 21 May 2016.
The exhibition, which was developed by Conradh na Gaeilge (The Gaelic League), details the history of the Irish language, from its decline following the impact of the Great Famine to the cultural and linguistic revival of the late 19th century and beyond. It focuses in particular on the role of the Irish language within the vision and ideals of the generation who brought about the Easter Rising, exploring the stories of some of the key figures, male and female, associated with the events of 1916.
The Sean Hollywood Arts exhibition is provided by Conradh na Gaeilge in partnership with Newry, Mourne and Down District Council’s Irish Language Unit.
The Mullaghbawn exhibition is provided by Tí Chulainn in partnership with Conradh na Gaeilge and Newry, Mourne and Down District Council’s Irish Language Unit.
