Write a commentThe cream of local talent will be joined by others from further afield at next weeks Iur Cinn Fleadh that takes place throughout Newry from Friday the 12th to Sunday the 14th of September.
Highlighting young talent is certainly one of the most important aims of the Iur Cinn Fleadh festival with up and coming group Sioda performing as well as Darragh McNulty and Terry Conlon junior, Cup O’Joe, Brandé, New Ancestors, Warrenpoint Comhaltas and lots more.
Teenager Aislinn Fegan won the All Ireland for Banjo at Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann in August and Aislinn plays with young group Oscail, in O’Dowds bar on the Saturday night.
As well as the cream of local trad and folk talent playing in 30 plus venues around the city, there’s a chance to take to the water with an evening boat trip on the tall ship Soteria up Newry Canal while being entertained with the best of trad talent. Tickets are very limited for this and trips will run at 7pm on the Friday and Saturday nights from the Albert Basin with tickets priced at £10 available from the Sugar Supper Club in Sugar Island.
The University of the Third Age U3A have an afternoon of Ceilidi and Old Tyme Dancing at the Canal Court Hotel on Friday the 12th at 2pm. Admission is £5 on the door.
There are still some tickets left for The Four of Us concert in Newry Town Hall on Saturday the 13th and you can get them at the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre but be quick!
With an afternoon of Céilí and Set Dancing in Newry Town Hall on Sunday the 14th at 5pm with tickets on the door, there really is something for everyone so get down and enjoy the fun.
