Newry City Councillor Geraldine Kearns has been appointed as the new Chairperson of Newry District Electoral Area following Newry, Mourne and Down District Council's February DEA meeting. She replaces Cllr Gary Stokes and following her appointment has said she is keen to use her position to work hard and tackle local issues for the people of Newry. DEA Forums were developed as a model of engagement and are there to provide opportunities for all sections of the community to participate in discussion and operate as part of the decision making process.
Cllr Kearns said “I want to work with all parties, building close relationships with our local community and voluntary sector to identify the real issues for our community.
“Across our city there are people and groups who are keen to help develop Newry further into a first class city for all, I want to work with them to help deliver credible, transformative change for our city.
“I’m looking forward to working with everyone over the coming months to help support the development of our city for everyone."
