The first 12 homes in a brand-new housing development in Newry were completed recently, with the keys being handed over to the new residents. Craigmore View, which is being developed by Apex Housing Association (Apex), will see a total of 255 homes completed over the next two years.
Craigmore View located in the townland of Derrybeg is a short distance from the City Centre. Just off the A1 the development is adjacent to the Fiveways Service Station and Damolly Retail Park. Local amenities include Newry Train Station and Daisy Hill Hospital which are both a short distance away. The site is situated nearby to local primary and secondary schools.

The £35.7million development is supported by £19.7 million of Housing Association Grant funding from the Department for Communities and £16 million of private finance provided by Apex.
Mother of three, Jade Woods, described her new 3-bedroom house in Craigmore View as “amazing” after getting the keys recently. Ms Woods said “The last few years we’ve been living in Kilkeel and as I don’t drive, I’ve felt very isolated. Moving to Newry and being closer to family is great; it’s a new beginning for us. There’s nothing that I don’t like about the house, it’s amazing! We’ve got plenty of storage and the kids love the big back garden. I can’t wait to see Craigmore View continue to grow and the kids are looking forward to making lots of new friends in the local area!”

Sheila and Sean O’Boyle also received the keys to their new 3-bedroom house recently, which they will share with their daughter and grandson. Sheila took some time to chat about their new home “We’re so impressed with the high standard of work; our house is unbelievable. The kitchen is my favourite room, and throughout it’s so spacious! Moving here from private rented accommodation and having waited more than 10 years for a suitable home, we feel very fortunate to have been allocated one of the first homes in Craigmore View. It gives us a sense of security in our later years.” she said.

Donna Matthewson, Apex’s Director of Housing, commented “It’s fantastic to see the beginning of this new community in Newry, with the handover of the first 12 homes in Craigmore View. We know there continues to be great demand for social housing in the Newry area and that these new homes will be welcomed locally. We look forward to seeing Craigmore View grow into a thriving community over the next few years as we complete all 255 homes.”
Construction began in Craigmore View in 2021. A total of 255 homes for individuals, couples and families will be completed by 2025. The development will offer a range of properties including 2, 3 and 4 bed houses; and 1 and 2 bed apartments; with a number of homes designed to facilitate people with disabilities. All homes will be built to Lifetime Home and Secured by Design standards.
