Write a commentLocal politicians have united in their condemnation of the weekend attack on the Kingsmills Memorial.
Police received a report around 4pm on Saturday that the Kingsmills Road memorial had been daubed with paint.
The memorial was erected in memory of 10 Protestant workmen who were shot dead at the spot by the IRA in 1976.
Ulster Unionist MLA Danny Kennedy said it was a sickening attack "This will cause stress to relatives and it has to be condemned," he said.
"I think it is a hate crime, there is no place in a decent society for this memorial to be damaged or violated."
SDLP Newry and Armagh MLA Dominic Bradley also condemned the attack saying "To attack a memorial that is a source of comfort to the victims of this heinous crime is a truly callous and depraved act," he said.
Sinn Féin's Mickey Brady described the paint attack on the Kingsmill Memorial as a criminal and disgraceful act. "It's absolutely disgraceful that this type of criminal activity would happen. I condemn it unreservedly.
"It doesn't serve any purpose or cause, it doesn't do anything only hurt those whose loved ones' this monument represents"
