Write a commentDromore Diocesan Historical Society have launched their 2015 Journal. This 136 page publication containing articles, features and photographs relating to people, places and events in the Dromore Diocese, past and present was launched last night at Newry Parish Centre.
Of special interest to Newry and area readers are Dr Francis Campbell’s recent compelling lecture “the Holy See in World Affairs”; Dean Davies account of the pivotal research of the late Patrick Keenan; Bro. Brian Monaghan’s reflection on St Moninna and Killeavy ; Michael Keenan’s History of Tamnaharry House and Colum McConville’s account of Bishop Patrick Donnelly, “Bard of Armagh”
Bishop McAreavey has contributed an interesting account of his time in China during his sabbatical year while Lurgan-born priest Fr. Alf McMullan’s work in the US is outlined by Jim Conway. Fr Andrew McMahon’s history of Magheral Church and Drumballyroney is a scholarly discourse on that ancient Parish while further articles cover a wide geographical area of the Diocese from Lurgan with Mary Goss’ fine article on the pioneering Public Health work of Dr James Deeny to Warrenpoint with both a re-print of Patrick Keenan’s History of Clonallon and Roisin Keenan’s account of the recent renovations to St Peter’s Church in the town.
