Write a commentIndependent Newry city councillor Kevin McAteer has welcomed a proposed traffic calming scheme by transport NI in the Martin’s Lane and Carnagat road areas of Newry. McAteer welcomes the proposals after a resident consultation leaflet was dropped around residents homes in the area recently outlining the plans of transport NI.
The leaflet outlines a desire by locals to have traffic calming measures installed at Martin’s Lane and Carnagat Road. Transport NI have stated that they are pleased to advise that following their assessment incorporating the results of a traffic survey, the recent history of collisions and environmental factors, Martins Lane and the Carnagat road have achieved a high enough priority to be included within transport NIs traffic calming programme of works.
Speaking on the issue the Independent councillor stated “It is always good to hear of traffic calming schemes in residential areas and this is very welcome news. Road safety is always paramount particularly in a large residential area such as this and I welcome this scheme and fully support it.”
