The Irish Men’s Shed Association, sponsored by energy company Flogas, have successfully achieved the official Guinness World Record for the Largest Display of Kettles. Kettles are the most important tool in supporting social connection and mental wellbeing for ‘Shedders’. Over one thousand new and old kettles in working order collected from Sheds nationwide and donated by Flogas were on display at the Association’s annual conference and shedfest in Mucklagh Community Centre, Tullamore, Co. Offaly on Tuesday 19th November 2024.

Men from Lissummon Men's Shed were amongst hundreds of shedders from all around Ireland  who came together with the IMSA and partners Flogas to set a new Guinness World Records title for the Largest display of kettles!  The record of 1,089 fully working kettles, ranging from brand new to over 70 years old, was set at the IMSA national Conference and Shedfest in Mucklagh Co. Offaly in front of a live audience and was livestreamed to shedders around Ireland and the World.

Kettles are one of the most important ‘tools’ in any Men’s Shed in supporting social connection, which is why the Association decided to go for the Guinness World Record. A minimum of 1,000 kettles was needed and had to be in perfect working order. The kettles have come from sheds, schools, offices and other community groups all over Ireland. Flogas also donated 550 brand new kettles to support the attempt and these will now be distributed to Sheds countrywide. This record is a tangible way of demonstrating the theme of this year’s conference ‘The Power of Connection’

Master of Ceremonies Marty Morrissey introduced the audience to the record Adjudicator Seyda Subasi Gemici, who had checked the kettles in the display, reviewed all the video and document evidence. She announced that the record had been set and then presented the official Guinness World Records Certificate to IMSA CEO Enda Egan.

CEO of the Irish Men’s Sheds Association, Enda Egan, said “We are delighted with this record as it is a real and tangible expression of the power of connection, we’re very proud of the effort that was put in by sheds, schools and community organisations all around Ireland in today’s achievement in setting a Guinness World Record.

"It serves as a reminder that the benefits of participating in Sheds can be far-reaching, from improvements in health and wellbeing, to helping the environment, to strengthening and enhancing communities.

"Sometimes the smallest things can make a big difference, and that is why we say the two most important things in a Men’s Shed are connection and a kettle!

We know that this record is a marker which other shed groups will be chasing, and we hope that the community effort will inspire others to go after the record.”

John Conroy, marketing manager, Flogas Ireland said “Congratulations to the Irish Men’s Shed’s Association and everyone involved in setting the Guinness World Record for the Largest Display of Kettles!

"This achievement is more than just a number, it’s a powerful symbol of unity, creativity, and the incredible impact of community connection. It’s an inspiring reminder that great things happen when people come together with purpose and passion.”
