Students from St. Paul’s High School Bessbrook, St. Joseph’s High School Newry, and Newry High School have taken part in a Politics in Action project at Stormont.
SDLP Newry & Armagh MLA Justin McNulty who was joined by local Sinn Féin representatives Liz Kimmins and Mickey Brady on a panel discussion has spoken of his admiration for the local students.
The Newry & Armagh MLA said “I was delighted to have the opportunity to attend the concluding event for the Politics in Action project in Stormont last week. This was the second time that I met with these students, and on both occasions I was extremely impressed by the maturity and attention to detail that was demonstrated whilst discussing serious topics such as driving, drugs, and mental health and wellbeing.
“The students’ diligence was evident in the range of statistics and facts they presented, which communicated the very serious picture of the topics up for discussion, and if that wasn’t impressive enough, the students went on to outline their recommendations for improvement in these areas.
“It was my pleasure to bring the students to the Assembly Chamber at the conclusion of the event. The only way that we can guarantee a functional future for this place is by encouraging and fostering the passions of our younger generation. I hope and believe that a few of the cohort of students I met last week will be sitting as MLAs in the near future.”
