The popular Carlingford hiking destination, Slieve Foye is to benefit from €115,200 funding for a significant upgrade to the access road into popular car park location above Carlingford village. It's part of an announcement of €3m funding yesterday by the Irish Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD to develop and upgrade over 300 forest parks, walking trails and outdoor amenities. At 589 metres Slieve Foye is the highest mountain in County Louth and commands stunning views over Carlingford Lough.
Also included is €5,760 for new signage and trail repair at Ravensdale. Some €2 million will be invested in improving and maintaining 280 recreational facilities on Coillte-owned lands right across the country with a further €1 million will be used to deliver 25 new outdoor projects such as walking trails, loops, boardwalks, ecotrails and carpark facilities.
The investment is part of a Strategic Partnership between the Department of Rural and Community Development and Coillte that is designed to boost rural tourism and local economies.
The funding is part of a 5 year strategic partnership between the Department of Rural and Community Development and Coillte which will see a €15m investment over the five year period 2022 to 2026.
This funding announcement will assist Coillte in continuing to upgrade facilities to meet the increased demand for access to these amenities.
