Planning permission has been granted for a housing development on lands at Chequer Hill and south of College Gardens in Newry. It is one of several large developments under way for Newry City. The 3.5 hectare site is currently in use for agricultural purposes.
The proposals involve the erection of 67 units, 3 detached dwellings, 58 semi detached and 6 Apartments. It includes parking to the side of every dwelling with formalised gardens to front and rear. The apartment building will have communal parking to front and a mix of communal and private open space. Twenty eight of the units will be for social housing.
The proposed development will only be accessed and will connect to the existing footway link at College Gardens. There will also be provision for pedestrians and cyclists to reach the Armagh Rd via Chequer Hill.
The application in the name of George McCullough was submitted back in 2015 and was only passed at last weeks Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Planning Meeting, 28 June.
A list of conditions have been attached to the approval.
