Charity Pot is a beautiful "oral scented hand and body lotion, and every penny spent on the product in the Lush store in Newry on the 29th and 30th (minus the VAT that has to go to the Government) will go straight towards the Pride in Newry Festival.

Commenting on the Lush initiative Rory Rafferty, Chairman, Newry Rainbow Community and the Pride in Newry sub-committee said "We are absolutely delighted that a multi-national such as Lush have decided to Support Pride in Newry with their charity pot. Which is, in itself a sustainable, fair trade, vegan product that has helped very many humanitarian causes worldwide. It is testament to the hard work of committee and the quality of our growing festival that lush have contacted us and wish to be associated with us this way. The festival's many successes rely on the support and encouragement of the local community and business sector. Pride in Newry is a major undertaking for the Newry Rainbow Community each year and throws up many challenges, not the least of them being financial resources. We therefore are enormously grateful for all and any support.

LUSH’s Charity Pot (£1.00 for 10g / £6.95 for 95g / £12.95 for 240g) now has a brand new self-preserving formula that benfits worthy causes as well as your skin. The new formula includes seven materials sourced from our Sustainable Lush Fund (SLush Fund) projects.

In 2013 Charity Pot raised over £2.5 million globally, and since launching in 2007 over £7 million has been given away around the world, to good causes such as: Frack Off London, Sea Shepherd, Climate Rush, Humane Society International, Beagle Freedom Project (BFP); and Reprieve.

As well as seven ingredients from their  SLush Fund projects, this new formula also includes beautiful ingredients such as Fair Trade Olive Oil from the women-led cooperative Sinyanna of Galilee in the northern region of Israel. Founded by Jewish and Palestinian citizens of Israel to provide access to markets for Palestinian farmers, as a demonstration of peaceful cooperation and to empower women.

The Sustainable Lush Fund (SLush Fund) was established in November 2010 with the idea of moving our ethical buying practices beyond simply buying fairly traded ingredients, to develop supportive partnerships with the communities that produce them.

LUSH donate 2% of the amount spent on raw materials and packaging to the Fund, the money is then used to start sustainable farming and regenerative community projects. To date, the £1.2 million raised has supported the development of 32 projects in 19 countries.

Lush buy materials from seven of these projects for the new reformulated Charity Pot: Rosewood oil from Peru; ylang-ylang oil from Swedru, Ghana; and geranium oil from the Mountain Organic Farming, Nanyuki, Kenya for the fragrance; while fresh aloe leaves from the Laikipia Women’s Aloe Groups and Permaculture Centre, Kenya; moringa oil from Techiman, Ghana; Fair Trade shea butter from the Women’s Ojoba Colective, Ghana; and Fair Trade organic cocoa butter from the Peace Community in Columbia form part of the product base.

Using the three main principles of the Permaculture movement; Care of the Earth, Care of People and Fair Share – the SLush Fund has enabled LUSH to achieve a sustainable organic alternative to conventional agriculture.

Although a completely separate initiative, using ingredients from the SLush Fund in Charity Pot allows their customers to support some of these sustainable farming initiatives, at the same time as raising funds for grassroots campaigning around the world.

To help raise awareness, Lush Newry staff will also be at the Pride Festival collecting signatures for their equal marriage petition for Northern Ireland.
