As a thank you to Air Ambulance NI for helping save the life of Mayobridge man Gerry Dunbar, he and his family are holding a fundraising event this weekend in Mayobridge GAC Social Club to give back to the charity that provides a vital emergency response service.
Gerry suffered a cardiac arrest while out shopping in Cornmarket in Newry in June and the prompt action of bystanders, paramedics and the Air Ambulance crew undoubtedly saved his life. The skill of the Air Ambulance crew in landing the helicopter in the confined space at Cornmarket was a major plus in the speedy response to the incident.
Air Ambulance NI is a charity organisation funded by events and donations. With a highly skilled team of doctors and paramedics on board, the air ambulance can deliver hospital-level treatment at the scene of serious incidents, often making the difference between life and death. It costs £8,200 per day to run the service, and on average two individuals per day in Northern Ireland find themselves in need of their critical care.
Gerry has made an amazing recovery and he and his family are determined to support the charity. The fundraising night will take place at Mayobridge Social Club this Saturday 1 November from 8pm to 1am. The event will feature entertainment from KEEP'ER Country and a special guest appearance by Elvis himself, along with refreshments, prizes and a cardiology team information stand. There will also be a CPR demonstration on the night.
Admission is £10 with all proceeds going directly to Air Ambulance NI. The family is encouraging as many people as possible to attend the event.
