The B8 Newry Road in Mayobridge will be completely closed for nearly two weeks from Monday 17 November as emergency repairs are carried out on a culvert, Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has confirmed.

The full road closure will be in place from 8am on Monday 17 November until 5pm on Friday 28 November between the junction with Aughnagon Road and the junction with Crossan Road.

Two diversion routes have been put in place to help traffic navigate around the closure. The first route will take motorists along the B8 Hilltown Road, U6185 Derryleckagh Road, B7 Bridge Road and B7 Chapel Road. The second diversion will use the A25 Rathfriland Road, A25 Newry Road, A25 Newry Street, A25 Main Street, A25 Downpatrick Street, Hilltown Road and B25 Rathfriland Road.

Minister Kimmins said: "These essential maintenance works will deliver benefits for residents and road users and demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."

Motorists are being warned to expect delays and allow extra time when travelling.
